World War II: The Home Front

a picture of author Michael Eckers with a typewriterMichael Eckers will present his talk on The Home Front during World War II at the Marshalltown Public Library on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the library’s community meeting rooms.

Most Americans are aware of some aspect of the Second World War, fought from 1941-1945.  Along with the tremendous contributions to world security of those who fought against tyranny was the hard work and sacrifices by the people “back home”.  Without the support and endeavors of Americans on “The Home Front”, our military forces could not have defeated the Axis and won the freedom of peoples around the globe.

Michael Eckers is an author, historian and public speaker who has studied our nation’s military history from his childhood.  His focus is on those who have struggled so hard to secure our own liberties; his passion is sharing what he has learned.  He has written seven books to date and speaks around the country on topics surrounding our military heritage.

Michael’s presentation on “World War II – The Home Front” focuses on the personal and nation-wide fight against a common enemy through resource rationing, recycling, scientific and industrial innovation, and financial contributions made by all of us.  From elementary students to the senior citizens, all Americans had a part to play in the defeat of those who would strip away our freedoms.  Knitting, sewing, driving less, collecting milkweed pods, saving fats from cooking, eating less sugar; the list is nearly endless.  Events and causes affecting an individual state is where Michael really “hits home” in this presentation.

Eckers will have his books for sale following the presentation. For more information or to ask questions, please contact the Library’s Information Desk at 641-754-5738 ext. 4.
