Linda McCann: The Cedar Valley Road

A picture of the trolley going over a bridgeHistorian Linda McCann will be at the Marshalltown Public Library on Tuesday, June 4th at 2:00 p.m. to do a presentation on the Cedar Valley Road, a trolley that ran from Waverly to Cedar Rapids.

The Waterloo, Cedar Falls, & Northern Railway operated for more than 50 years and impacted many lives during its existence. Even now, people can recall the conductor on ‘their’ car, or talk about riding the ‘trolley’ to college. Farmers rode the northern Iowa rail to town to sell their produce and factories in Waterloo shipped by the Cedar Valley Road. Come hear stories of the Cedar Valley Road from Linda McCann, a historian from Shell Rock, Iowa.

Linda Betsinger McCann is an author who researches and writes about the history of Iowa. McCann is the author of the Iowan Books’ Lost County series in which she explores the towns, institutions, and other history that may have been forgotten in counties across Iowa as well as several other books about Iowa history.  Many of her books can be found in the Marshalltown Public Library’s collection.

Books will be for sale after the presentation. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Marshalltown Public Library and is free to the community. For questions or more information, please contact the Library’s Information Desk at 641-754-5738 ext. 4.
