Descent Book Discussion @ 5:30 p.m.
The Marshalltown Public Library will host two book discussions of Tim Johnston’s thriller, Descent, on Wednesday, March 20 at noon and 5:30 p.m. in the library’s community meeting rooms. These discussions are in preparation for Tim Johnston’s visit to the library on Thursday, April 4 at 6:00 p.m. for a book talk and signing.
Descent follows the Courtland family, who are taking a family vacation in the Rocky Mountains before their daughter leaves for college. But when Caitlin and her younger brother, Sean, go out for an early morning run and only Sean returns, the mountains become as terrifying as they are majestic. Written with a precision that captures every emotion, every moment of fear, as each member of the family searches for answers, Descent races like an avalanche toward its heart-pounding conclusion. The Denver Post called Descent, “A compelling thriller that is both creepy and literary . . . Descent is not just a mystery. It is an emotional story of evil, fear, acceptance and irony.”
Tim Johnston is the author of the novels Descent and The Current (Jan 22, 2019), the story collection Irish Girl, and the Young Adult novel Never So Green. Published in 2009, the stories of Irish Girl won an O. Henry Prize, the New Letters Award for Writers, and the Gival Press Short Story Award. He holds degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Tim currently lives in Iowa City, Iowa.
